ViewRanger supports the internal GPS in phones that contain one and also supports an external Bluetooth GPS.
To install the SIS file:
• Connect the phone to the computer using Bluetooth or USB
• Start Nokia PC suite and choose Install applications
• In the left hand file area locate and highlight the ViewRanger SIS file that you have downloaded
• Press the green arrow button to transfer the SIS file to your phone. You can transfer it to either the phone memory or memory card.
• Once the application file has been transferred, your handset will ask you to confirm that you wish to install the software. Select YES, and follow the instructions on your handset until installation is complete.
If you do not have a Windows PC then please see the user manual or the wiki for other installation methods.
Note: If installation fails with a certificate error, then run Tools > App manager. Choose Options > Settings. Set ‘Software installation’ to ‘On’ or ‘All’ and ‘Online certif. check’ to ‘Off’. Press Back twice to apply the settings and close App manager, then reinstall. On some phones these settings are in the Certificate manager rather than the App manager.
Step 2. Download and Copy Maps
Two types of map are available to download. The Lake District and Snowdonia MapPak zip files each contain map, height, point-of-interest and searchable gazetteer data for a small area of the national park. The area they cover is approximately 10km by 10km. The map is 1:50,000 scale (Landranger). These MapPaks give you access to ViewRanger’s full functionality - you can view the map, generate 3D panoramas and search for place names.
The 1:1million scale maps together cover the entire country. They are overview maps with limited detail. They provide no height, point-of-interest or gazetteer data, so cannot be used to generate panoramas, nor can they be seached.
Download the maps that you would like to use and save them to your computer. If you are installing a MapPak ZIP file then decompress it by right mouse clicking on it and choosing Extract All. This will create a folder containing four data files.
To install maps you can either use Nokia PC Suite or use a memory card reader
