NOKIA MAPS and What to Do

When downloading new maps using Nokia Map Loader the old ones are deleted Sooooooooooooooooooo

These methods will saves U having to constantly RE-Download Maps each time you need a new map or combinations of maps

MY SetUp
I use a card reader for my SD card connected Via USB ( Not so keen on the Nokia USB cable )

I use Map Loader Ver 1.3.5 and Nokia MAPs Ver 1.2 all for my dated but loved N80

Ive also done this on a friends N95 so Iam sure it works 4 all Nokia PHs that support MAPs

Also you must Run Nokia Maps at least once on your phone so it sets up the DIR structure E:/cities/

Maps are located E:/cities/diskcache/
Voices are located E:/cities/english/ (english being example)

Have not tried it on Nokia MAPs Ver 2.0 But it should work try it out

Method 1 ( Works if you need only 1 Lot of maps at a time (Eg Just Australia or Just Chile or Just India)

Method 2 ( Works if you need different combinations (Eg Australia Chile India Thailand England )

Method 1

Instead of using Map Loader go to h**p://nokiamaps.moo.no/ you will find all versions of Nokia Maps
also the Voices.

Download the Maps that you require they will be numbered zipped file (rename the zip files to a user friendly name)
Also download the Voices you need

Example: Australia is 15 Ive renamed as Australia_15
Chile is 115 Ive renamed as Chile_115
Etc Etc Etc the choice is up to you.

When you uncompress these files you will find the complete DIR Structure within

Copy all to DIR: E:/cities/diskcache/—–>Ur MAP Goes Here
Copy Voices DIR: E:/cities/—–>Ur Voice Goes Here

Put back in Phone and run MAPS it will all be good

Method 2

Use Nokia Map Loader 2 download the combination you require & the voice (EG English)

Save the DIR E:/cities/ to Computer HD and Zip Rar or Stuffit ( Rename Archive for easy use in future )

EG Aust-Chile-India-Thailand-England

Uncompress later and Put back in Phone and run MAPS it will all be good

These methods only let you have maps with no routing unless you Pay…………..
If any one knows how to H@ck the Routing function for MAPS with out paying Nokia there my friend for life

My self I’d prefer routing in my GPS apps

1) TOMTOM v6.02 Limited coverage to were I travel
2) ROUTE66 v7.00 Better coverage but TOMTOM is a better app
3) GARMIN XT But it needs more RAM than my PH can handle Coverage is only as good as TOMTOM
4) GPSMAP 2.31 is great if you want to scan maps and calibrate on Ur PH or Using OziExplorer on PC & MacTel
5) SMARTComGPS 1.55 same as above but Maps can only be calibrated using OziExplorer on PC & MacTel

There more some are better than others

There No other way of installing Maps that Ive found Nokia has a Messy way of creating the DIRs Insane in the Membrain

All of this is Done using my MacTel Running Parallels WinXP
