Symantec has announced a beta release free for download to protect Symbian devices from mobile viruses. As an integrated security solution that combines antivirus and firewall protection, Symantec Mobile Security comes at a much needed time with the increasing spread of the MMS-transmitted CommWarrior and Bluetooth-based Cabir viruses.

Symantec Mobile Security provides secure mobile computing through comprehensive, reliable protection against malicious attacks directed at devices. Specifically designed to work with mobile device management systems, administrators can use wireless connections to send installation and configuration files to users devices to maintain protection.

Devices can be configured remotely by the administrator to pick up virus definitions and product updates either directly from the Symantec LiveUpdate servers (through a wireless Internet connection), or from an internal network.

Symantec Mobile Security supports the Symbian Series 60 and Series 80 platforms, including devices such as:
