In-fusio Midtown Madness III 3D

All the excitement, all the , all the danger of the console version - now for mobile gamers!

For the first time, players will have all the excitement, the , the danger, the how–can–we–say–it…the MADNESS of Midtown Madness 3 for XBOX in their hands, wherever they go. Race against the clock to get the best time! Crash through whatever gets in your way as you fulfill your career objectives, but remember, the clock is always ticking!! It’s all here in Midtown Madness 3 Mobile; Mobile Gamers never had it so good!

The presentation of Midtown Madness 3 Mobile is top notch, even down to the menu’s which gives the game that “real console game” look and feel. It’s a really solid racer and I thoroughly enjoyed zipping around the city streets trying to unlock all the courses.

The in game 3D engine, powered by Fathammer’s X-Forge system, is pretty impressive, although Paris does seem remarkably flat and even with the traffic levels set to maximum the roads never seem crowded. Neither of these shortcomings detract from the experience though and you’ll have great fun zipping through the tight city streets trying to beat your competitors to all the checkpoints in time. Music, sadly, is only played on the menu screens, but the in game sound effects do a pretty good job with the constant drone of your engines being suitably drowned out by the squeal of rubber as you do a handbrake turn around that particularly tight corner leaving a trail of rubber in your wake. Your car can be controlled with the Navi-Key or the keypad, or a combination of the two. Sadly, you can’t change the controls but I found that leaving auto-accelerate on and using a combination of the Navi-Key for steering and the 5 key for handbrakes gave me the most comfortable control method.

3D Beach Ping Pong
Grab your paddle and hit the beach for ping pong fun!

Play ping pong now in stunning 3D! Challenge a quirky cast of characters on the world’s most exotic beaches. Play in tournaments to unlock new paddles to hit faster, land bigger curve shots, and more! It’s time for some laid back fun under the sun!

Features:

* The only mobile ping pong game in 3D & 2D.
* Easy and fun one button gameplay.
* Play on the worlds most attractive, sunny beaches including Miami, Hawaii and the French Riviera.
* Compete against 6 characters in across multiple tournaments.
* Unlock new paddles to hit faster and with more finesse.
* Post high scores to the Mobile League™ and SMS challenge friends!

This is the first racquet sports game that offers hardcore depth and casual accessibility in a single package. You simply press the button to hit the ball, but only hitting basic returns won’t get you very far in this game. You must then release when the location cursor on the other side of the table is positioned where you want the shot to go. Holding down the button powers up your shot, which introduces the wrinkle of putting some real velocity behind the ball, but not too much that you over-power the shot and miss the table altogether. Finally, you can double-tap the button to put some spin on the shot and try to out-maneuver your on-screen opponent. The tournaments you play through in-game unlock six opponents and new paddles — expect a couple hours of honest game play before everything is seen for the first time. But the game doesn’t wind down even then, as your ping pong opponents become real contenders right alongside your own ascension in rank and talent.

Beach Ping Pong comes highly recommended to any mobile gamer.

Tea Vui Huang’s DNG Phone Camera (capture photos in raw format)

4 years in the waiting, Digital Negative (DNG) - first introduced by Adobe in 2004 as a universal format for the RAW image files generated by digital cameras - has finally arrived on the mobile phone!

Previously, cameras that provide direct DNG support are only available on high-end models from camera manufacturers like Hasselblad, Leica, Pentax (K10D), Ricoh, and Samsung. But now, with Tea Vui Huang’s free DNG Phone Camera, you can capture photos directly to the DNG RAW image format from your humble camera phone.

The DNG images will be saved to the “Images” folder of the microSD card using the default image file naming format. DNG is supported by Adobe Photoshop CS2, Photoshop CS, Photoshop Elements 3.0/4.0 and DNG Converter software. DNG raw files must first be processed before it can be used to generate a final JPEG or TIFF image.

DNG Phone Camera is designed for phones minimally supporting CLDC 1.0, MIDP 2.0, JSR 135 (Mobile Media) and JSR 75. This product includes DNG technology under license by Adobe Systems Incorporated.

A raw image file (sometimes written RAW image file) contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of a digital camera or image scanner. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and ready to be used with a bitmap graphics editor or printed. Normally, the image will be processed by a raw converter in a wide-gamut internal colorspace where precise adjustments can be made before conversion to an RGB file format such as TIFF or JPEG for storage, printing, or further manipulation.

Author’s Words:

Unknown to many people, photos taken with camera phones have myraids of information stored in them. These information (or ‘tags’) can be used by the receivers / viewers of the photos (e.g. on Flickr or other -sharing websites) to index & profile the photographs and (indirectly) the photograhers themselves based on these embedded information (technically known as EXIF data). In newer phones these information can include GPS satellite locations, revealing both the exact time and place where the photos were taken.

With Tea Vui Huang’s Detagger on your mobile phone, you can now detag and wipe out all these tags from your photos before sending them out or posting it on the Internet! Previously, the only other way to do this on the phone was to use the phone’s editor to alter and resave the file, reducing the quality of the in the process. Detagger removes the tags without damaging the photos and in the process even reduces the size of the JPEG photos by about 3-5 KBytes as well.

The detagged photos will be saved to the “Images” folder of the microSD card with a “-001″ suffix. You can then send out the detagged photos via MMS or upload it as per normal to your preferred -sharing websites or blog. Detagger is designed for phones minimally supporting CLDC 1.0, MIDP 2.0 and JSR 75.

Tea Vui Huang is indeed a talented developer. The lastest application I’ve come across from him is All-Format Writer a freeware J2ME-based application that allows you to create and send out short and simple documents on the mobile phone in various competing ‘next-generation’ electronic document formats. These include OpenDocument Format (ODT), Microsoft’s Open XML (DOCX), China’s national electronic document format Unified Format (UOF) and the popular Portable Document Format (PDF).

Most smartphones ship with inbuilt document viewers and this freeware will allow us to create documents on the fly too. Although this does not give us the ability to edit documents but the power of creating PDF’s on the go is nice to have.

Usage - As this application writes files to the removable storage, user permission is required. On the phones, the messages prompted will be “Allow application All-Format Writer to read user data?”, followed by “Allow application All-Format Writer to write user data?”. On the Sony Ericsson phones, the messages prompted will be “Allow application to read user data?” and “Allow application to write user data?”. Please select “Yes” in all the above instances.
