New version 3.14 has advanced GPS power save features and possibility to recover a lost GPS phone through an SMS enquiry!
Introduction
Makes your phone into a real-time AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) tracking device. Also for personal location tracking. See your track in real time on Google Earth or GpsGate.com!
Low data costs thanks to packet data and compact messages. Uses location data from a GPS or cell tower information.
Purpose
The product is intended for fleet tracking or personal location tracking.
Would you like to…
View the whereabouts of your entire fleet from your desktop?
Know the closest vehicle or technician to the next job site?
Access yesterday’s detailed route history for every vehicle in your fleet?
With a system based on Aspicore GSM Tracker, you can!
What does the application do?
Cost-effective and efficient tool to track several mobile phones in a remote SQL database or in a buddy tracking website.
Aspicore GSM Tracker is an S60 application, which makes the smartphone into a real-time AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) tracking device.
The application determines the location with a Bluetooth GPS receiver and transmits the tracking data to a server in real-time through a cellular packet data connection. The data connection to the server is usually made via the Internet.
If you have a Nokia N95 device, the application can use the internal GPS chip instead of an external Bluetooth GPS.
System description and purpose
Typically server stores the received tracking data into a SQL database. The data can be visualized with simple map software, (e.g. Google Maps for Enterprise, Google Earth) or it can be linked to a professional fleet management system or a mobile workforce management system.
Individual users can use Aspicore GSM Tracker for personal location tracking. They can e.g. automatically publish their current location and daily track on their web page.
Users can share their current location online with their buddies using the free GpsGate.com service provided by Franson Technology AB.

Features
You don’t even need necessarily to have as many GPS receivers as tracked mobile phones, if a lower accuracy suffices and there are only a few places or standard routes you want to have recognised. The location of the mobile phone can also be determined by the network cell id, which identifies the cell tower the phone is connected to.
You can configure the timers and events, which trigger the data send action. The data is sent in a compact UDP datagram, only a little over 100 packet data bytes per message. This means that the data transfer costs are minimal compared to e.g. SMS and the communication transactions are very fast.
Location tracking system
The central database can be a powerful SQL engine, which handles hundreds of mobile tracking targets. (Depending on the tracking frequency and resolution.) The database accumulates position data from the mobile phones being tracked. Each record in the database is identified by the IMEI code of the phone the data belongs to.
The location data is collected to an industry standard SQL database. This makes it straightforward to integrate with the rest of your company data systems.
If you are not using a GPS receiver, you must first create a mapping from the network cell ID to a geographical location. Unless you get the cell tower location lists from your mobile operator, you can collect the data yourself by driving around the places you want to have recognised by the system and have Aspicore GSM Tracker and a Bluetooth GPS to record the GPS coordinates of the network cells.
When the system is eventually being used, the mobile will report its network cell information to the system server by using Aspicore GSM Tracker. The server compares the network cell information to the accumulated data and converts it to an estimated geographical location. This way you can track your sales representatives, delivery men, children etc without them needing to carry a GPS receiver with them.
How to evaluate?
The central database solution is not included, but customers can use Aspicore’s test server in the Internet for evaluation and testing. The test server can also be used to evaluate the network cell based positioning. Collect first the cell locations along your daily routes with a Bluetooth GPS and then try positioning without a GPS receiver! This is a more affordable and a real-time alternative to operator based mobile phone positioning.
Server interface and tools
or Aspicore GSM Tracker sends data to the server as plain ASCII characters in an UDP datagram. You can write the receiving end program yourself by using UDP sockets, if you wish. You are free to use the sample Perl scriptsJava code to process the UDP datagrams and store them to a MySQL database. You can also use our Aspicore UDP Server tool. Http data from S60 v2, v3 or S80 can be processed as shown in our PHP and ASP samples. There is a freeware Windows .NET PC utility to receive NMEA datagrams via UDP and send them to a standard GPS moving map program through COM ports.
Aspicore Ltd is willing to provide you with the data collection database server software or to assist you to integrate the Aspicore GSM Tracker solution into your enterprise system.
See pictures 1 and 2 as a demonstration, how it is possible to integrate the Aspicore GSM Tracker real time location data with Microsoft MapPoint .NET Web Service.

Power saving features for Integrated GPS. The GPS power can be
automatically switched on and off as needed. If the application is
set to report its GPS position every 10 minutes and to turn the GPS
off in between, the battery time is about three times longer than
when keeping the GPS chip constantly powered up.
New GPS settings items:
“Max fix wait, min” and “Powersave after fix” On/Off.
The first setting determines how long the application waits for the
GPS getting a good satellite signal before giving up. This timeout
value is used, when making an automatic GPS connection. The timer can
be disabled by setting the value to zero.
The second setting, “Powersave after fix”, causes the application to
turn off the GPS straight after getting a good satellite signal and
possibly sending the good fix to the server or enquirer. Next time
the GPS is awakened again e.g. based on “Retry after, min” timer or
when receiving a position enquiry SMS. This GPS powersave function
has no effect if the charger is connected.
Recommended settings for extended battery operation:
GPS / On startup GPS : On
GPS / Max fix wait, min: 2
GPS / Powersave after fix: On
GPS / Retry after, Min: 10
Trig1 / Time trigger: On
Trig1 / Time period, min: 10
With these settings the handset reports its GPS position every 10
minutes with minimal power usage.
New SMS settings item:
“GPS activation by SMS”.
If turned on, this setting causes automatic GPS connection
establishment, when receiving a position enquiry by SMS.
Now the application can be used to recover a lost phone:
Set Autostart: On, System attribute: On, Password on exit: On,
GPS activation by SMS: On, Disable bill prompt: On
Application starts into the background on boot and stays silently
there until a position enquiry SMS is received from an authorized
user. When a matching SMS arrives, the GPS is activated and GPS
coordinates are sent back to the enquirer.
If the GPS and the data connection are usually off, the application
in the background consumes very little power. If this is what you
want, make the following settings:
GPS / On startup GPS : Off
GPS / Powersave after fix: On
Net / On startup conn. : Off

Then you can enjoy making frequent searches without having to type in the site link again.
Suggested Start Points
When you go to a web page, Opera Mini 4 first shows you an overview of the page, and suggests where to begin your reading. Just click once and Opera Mini 4 will zoom quickly in on the content.
Quick Browsing Keystrokes
Take control over your viewing options with a few quick keystrokes. Just hit 1 to open the Context Menu, where you can turn on Small Screen Rendering (Mobile View) or reload the page.
Before you click on a link, focus the cursor on a link to check where the link will take you. You can then choose whether you want to open the linked page with images turned off. If you choose to browse with the images turned off, you can still choose to load these images in the page you are browsing by selecting “Load images.” You can even load the image in its uncompressed, high-quality, original size by choosing “Open image.”
Tools and support for web designers
We support web designers who want to make their websites look even better to those browsing with Opera Mini. In Opera Mini 4, we have included all of the cool CSS support that web designers need to make their web pages look pixel perfect on in the mobile web world
