Nokia BetaLabs Nokia Audiobooks{update}
Overview
Welcome to the world of audiobooks. An audiobook is a recording of the contents of a book read aloud. There are tens of thousands of audiobooks available in the world, in various languages, ranging all the way from education to entertainment.
Nokia Audiobooks is a beta concept that enables you to enjoy audiobooks while on the go. It includes a highly efficient audio compression technology optimized for voice (AMR-WB), a player application for S60 (Nokia Audiobook Player), and an audio converter tool for PC (Nokia Audiobook Manager). Whereas traditional music player applications are optimized for music, Nokia Audiobook Player is optimized for audiobooks, enabling you to browse chapters, set bookmarks, and automatically continue from where you last time stopped listening.

A typical 400 page novel translates into a 10-20 hours long audiobook, which would traditionally take more than dozen CDs or hundreds of megabytes of low-quality MP3 files. Nokia Audiobooks uses a codec called AMR-WB, which is optimized for voice. With Nokia Audiobooks, you will get 5-10 times more content to your phone with similar voice quality, compared to content compressed with MP3 at 64 or 128 kbps. Consequently, you can easily store multiple audiobooks on your memory card - and still have plenty of capacity left for other things (like pics and video) you find important in life.
AMR-WB codec: Nokia Audiobooks uses standardized Adaptive Multi Rate-WideBand speech encoder (3GPP 26.190 / ITU-T G.722.2 See www.3GPP.org / www.itu.ch) for audio data compression in order to keep memory requirement for a book very small while maintaining excellent speech quality.
Compatibility(for audiobookplayer_1_03_s60_30)
Tested with Nokia N73, N76, N80, N93, N91, E70, E65, E62, E60, E50, 5500 sport, 3250. Should work but not fully tested with all devices based on S60 3rd Edition.
Compatibility (for audiobookplayer_1_03_s60_31.sis)
Tested with Nokia N95, N76, E90, 6290, 6110 Navigator. Should work but not fully tested with all devices based on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1.

Requirements: MS Smarthphone (Motorola Q), I have tested on Atom Exec (PPC) and it works also
Overview: Artamata’s Pocket Light allows you to conveniently use the camera flash on your Motorola Q as a flashlight at anytime without the multi-step process of the built-in camera application.
- One button access to the flashlight. Using the Q’s built in camera application, you need to hold down the camera button for 2 seconds, wait another 3 seconds before the camera application loads, then press Menu > Flash > On. Assign a speed-dial to Pocket Light and save the hassle!
- Saves your battery life by not simultaneously using the camera.
- Auto-On conveniently turns on the flashlight as soon as the app starts.
- Auto-Off saves your battery life by allowing you to set a timer to automatically turn off the flashlight.
- ScreenLight, by showing a bright white full-screen display and disabling the timeout for backlight, gives a softer light than the flashlight which can be great for reading at night.
- Morse Code feature lets you have some fun with Pocket Light. Enter any text and have it sent in morse code via your camera flash light. Hey, you never know when the cell towers will go down
Simply replace the demo with the given ‘Cr@ck’

Locatik v0.91 beta from psiloc
Q. What is Locatik? Can I have it?
Locatik is a free service which allows you to display your current position and share it with your friends. The service consists of two fundamental elements. First of which is a small phone application you will be asked to install on your device after registering on the Locatik web site, which in turn is the second element. The phone application sends your current position to Locatik servers (in the form of tiny reports we call Tiks) however only when you want it to do so. This information can be then viewed on the web at locatik.com/yourusername (Read on further down for more information on how we resolved privacy issues). We currently support only Nokia Nseries and Eseries devices. The great thing is however, that you don’t have to have a GPS phone to precisely define your location. You can use an external GPS receiver with Bluetooth to transmit your position. Even better yet, you don’t need GPS at all! We have used complex mathematical algorithms to aid in determining your position based on previous appearances of GPS devices in your area. The more of them passed in your vicinity in the past, the more accurate your results will be. Another accuracy factor is the cellular network itself, so the accuracy of your position may vary. In a well mapped urban area it shouldn’t be more than 100m.
Q. I’m a beta tester, what should I know?
The for the private beta period only GPS enabled devices are allowed to take part, this includes the following handsets: Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N82, Nokia E90 and the Nokia 6110 Navigator. We determine your location based on either your position in the cellular network or your GPS data. Since at the launch of this service we have no idea where the individual base stations in the world are you need to switch on your phone GPS for us to display your position. This also helps us build a location database so that later on sans GPS users can display their position on the network info. However GPS data will always be more accurate, so keep your GPS on for more accurate positioning.
Q. OK, I desperately need it! What now?
To start using Locatik, you first of all need to Sign Up. However Locatik is currently in private beta mode, so we’re invitation only at the moment. If you got an invitation e-mail from us, you can go to the Signup page straight away. Otherwise, if you have a compatible GPS phone (or a compatible phone with an external Bluetooth for that matter) and you feel that you could contribute to Locatik, leave us a note.
After successfully signing up you will receive an e-mail with an activation link, which will lead you to the final step of setting your account up. This is where you will download the phone software. After you’re done with the installation of the Locatik application on your phone, you can start sending Tiks (tiny reports containing your current position). To see your position go to: locatik.com/yourusername. Remember that sending Tiks requires you to use your phone’s data connection. Unless you have a flat rate data tariff or are using WiFi, sending Tiks may significantly raise your phone bill. Make sure you check with your mobile phone operator on your data prices.
Q. Where can I get the phone application?
If you accidentally uninstalled the application from your phone, have a new phone or just want to check for an update, remember that you can always grab the latest Locatik application from m.locatik.com whether using your PC browser or directly from your mobile phone. After the installation you may be asked for your personal AuthKey.
If you can’t remember your AuthKey, check in your e-mail for an invitation letter from locatik. The AuthKey is also available in the Preferences page page after you login.
Q. What’s a Tik?
Tik is the name we give to the piece of information you send using your phone. It is in this piece that information concerning your location is contained. We named them Tiks, because of their minute nature. For example if you are sending GPS reports periodically every 2 hours, then we are looking at Tik sizes of around 8 kB. If you’re not using GPS this figure will be obviously smaller.
Q. Public, Friends and Off…what’s that about?
Privacy. We care about your privacy. Therefore there are a number of modes of sharing your location information. First and probably the most obvious of all is the Public mode. When you’re in Public mode everyone can go to locatik.com and (knowing your username) can see where you were at the moment of sending the last report. This information will be accessible to all users of the Internet, not only registered users of Locatik.
Then there’s the Friends mode. When you set the Location Sharing to Friends on your phone, the next report you send will only be visible to the people you have on your Friends List on the web site. Unlike with the Public setting, your friends need to be registered users of Locatik to see you in Friends mode. The last position you sent in Public mode will however be available for everyone to see along with the time and date of the last public Tik.
Last, but not least is the Off setting. It is there for you, when you feel like you don’t want to share your location with anyone at the moment. When chosen this option completely turns off part of the application responsible for collecting information on your location, so that no one is able to see your current position. Again your last Tik sent in Private mode will be visible to your friends along with the annotation of time at which it was sent.
Q. What about the Friends Tab?
The Friends Tab is something we introduced in version 0.91 of Locatik. In Fact it’s something more than just a Tab, it’s a whole new feature. In the Friends Tab you can see all the people who accepted your friend request invitation sent via the web page. Whenever you send a Tik from your phone our server will answer back with an update of your friends list. This way you can see how far away your friends are from you as well as the amount of time that passed since they were seen at that location. Over time your list might grow to something like this:
Q. How do I add my friends to Locatik?
First of all, your friends need to have an activated account on Locatik, but that’s pretty obvious. You need to know their username. Once you know that, you need to enter their username in the address bar of your PC browser (adding friends works only via PC) in the following form: locatik.com/your_firends_username. Your friend will now appear in the friends & favorites on the second position just below you. You now have two choices, you can add him to the list as a favorite or as a friend (both icons are provided). If the latter is chosen a notification request will be sent to your friend informing that you want to add him as your friend. Now all you can do is to wait for the other person to make up their mind.
Q. What are the changes in the 0.91 version?
The following changes have been made to the 0.91 mobile client:
Tik Sending: Just below the Manual option, we have added Reuse Connection. When this option is chosen, Locatik will send a Tik only when it detects that a data connection has been opened by the user (or that another application has opened it). This may prove useful to you if you don’t have a flat-rate data plan and your mobile services provider is charging you per every e.g. 100KB sent.
Send While Stationary: If standing in a traffic jam or sleeping at night your position obviously doesn’t change, therefore you may not want to be sending Tiks, and only inform others when you actually change your position. If using GPS to share your location, Locatik will understand that you have moved when you travel 150 metres, if your GPS is turned off then this distance may be much larger, depending on your mobile operator. In summary Yes always sends Tiks, No waits until you move.
Send While Roaming: Well this isn’t exactly a new option, but it has been tweaked considerably to support MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators).
We have also added one feature that isn’t so obvious to see - Friends Discovery. Adding your friends to Locatik can be sometimes hard if you don’t have have a clue what the other persons Locatik username is. Friends Discovery eliminates this problem, by scanning your phonebook contacts and checking if they are in Locatik’s database. Those contacts are then displayed on your mobile phone letting you decide which ones you want to send friend requests to. All in just three steps.
